Question

What resources are available for podcasting?

Answer

The UIC Library does not have a dedicated podcast recording studio; however, you are welcome to reserve our study rooms for recording: https://libcal.uic.edu/

Please note that these rooms are not acoustically treated, so you may experience some ambient noise. The UIC Library is the the process of developing a dedicated recording studio, though an opening date has not yet been announced. The College of Education Make Good Lab's podcast recording room, located within their makerspace, is open to the entire campus community. For questions, contact makegoodlab@uic.edu

For equipment, Technology Solutions offers microphones, cameras, and other tools you can borrow: https://it.uic.edu/services/student/equipment-lending/

If you’re looking for training, the UIC Library periodically offers a three-part workshop as a starting point for launching podcast projects. The workshops introduce students design skills, accessibility strategies, planning, equipment, and basic editing with tools such as Audacity, a free, widely used audio editing and recording application and DaVinci Resolve. For questions about the workshops, please contact the Digital Scholarship Hub: digscholarship@uic.edu

Outside the library, Yesenia Estrada at the LARES/Sandbox Lab offers hands-on training with iPads and audio software such as GarageBand. You can learn more here: https://today.uic.edu/uic-opens-sandbox-lab-to-help-students-improve-their-worlds/
