Question

Use other non-UIC libraries

Answer

UIC students, faculty and staff can visit and use several academic and research libraries in Illinois and the Chicago area.

You are able to enter some libraries by showing your UIC i-card or registering with the library. You can also request books for pick up at UIC through the I-Share Catalog. Materials from institutions that are not part of I-Share can often be borrowed through interlibrary loan.

Connect to wi-fi at other libraries

Eduroam is used at UIC and at several other Libraries across Illinois.

Otherwise, many institutions provide free guest access: check with their service desk staff.

Use I-Share libraries

You can borrow books from any of the I-Share libraries in Illinois. Through the I-Share Catalog, you can request for items to be delivered to UIC, or you can visit these libraries and check out books in person.

Use Chicago libraries

Loyola University

UIC students, faculty and staff can borrow books from the Cudahy Library and the Lewis Library of Loyola University Chicago. Other materials can be used on site.

Northwestern University

UIC students, faculty and staff may borrow library materials. To obtain a Northwestern University Library borrower's card, present your UIC i-card to staff at the Northwestern University Library's Privileges Office.

Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership

UIC students, faculty and staff with a valid i-card can enter the Asher Library and borrow books.

University of Chicago

Tenured, tenure-track and clinical faculty patrons only can borrow books. Graduate, professional and undergraduate students may access the library but do not have borrowing privileges. UIC-affiliated patrons can obtain a University of Chicago Library ID card at the Daley Library circulation desk to use at the University of Chicago.

Center for Research Libraries (CRL)

CRL is a consortium of North American universities, colleges and independent research libraries that has a collection of international newspapers, journals, documents, archives, and other traditional and digital resources for research and teaching. UIC students, faculty and staff must make an appointment and show a valid i-card to access CRL materials on site.

Newberry Library

UIC students, faculty and staff with a valid i-card and a research need may access the resources of the Newberry Library on site. The library's collections do not circulate.
