Not all Special Collections and University Archives are available to the public.
The Special Collections and University Archives Department at the University Library, University of Illinois at Chicago, acquires collections for their research value, recognizing that the confidential nature of certain records often included in these collections – particularly records containing identifiable individual data – must be preserved.
Any person wishing to use confidential records must complete the Request for Research Access to Confidential Materials form, identifying themselves and stating their research purpose. They agree to maintain the confidentiality of the subjects and all persons mentioned in the records. The request will be reviewed and signed by the Reading Room attendant who will inform the researcher of the restrictions applicable to the requested collections. All research notes are subject to review by Special Collections and University Archives for compliance with the applicable restrictions. Photocopies, scans, or photographs of confidential materials are not permitted. It is the responsibility of the researcher to review the finding aids for any restrictions.
A copy of any publication resulting from the research shall be provided by the user to the Special Collections and University Archives Department.
